Offensive boost: Stars’ forward, Matthias Urbanski will return to the lineup Tuesday night against the Hawks. The veteran, who has picked up 16 points in 16 games this season, missed the last two games with a lower body injury, and should provide an added spark with his return. North Stars look to ruffle some feathers at home against Hawks

Oct 29, 2019 | 2:00 PM

The Battlefords North Stars will return to action Tuesday night riding the wave of a 10-game winning streak, looking to make it 11-straight, as the team welcomes the Nipawin Hawks to town for a showdown at the Civic Centre.

The Stars enter the evening with a 17-1 record this season, sitting in top spot of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) standings, and second overall in the entire Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) rankings.

Nipawin, meanwhile, are 10-6 on the year, after slipping from second to third in the Sherwood Division standings. The slide followed their back-to-back defeats at the hands of the Battlefords, last week in Nipawin.

The North Stars have rallied from down a pair of goals to beat the Hawks 3-2 in each of the prior two meetings in the season-series. That being said, the team will aim to add to their success against the Hawks with a quicker start this time around.

Offensive confidence should be at an all-time high for the Stars heading into play Tuesday. The team has scored a league-high 83 goals this season, and are coming off a 7-0 victory over La Ronge, that saw six different players chip in with a goal on the night.

Perhaps the hottest North Star heading into play Tuesday is defenceman Seth Summers. The soon-to-be 20-year-old rearguard is coming off a three-assist performance against La Ronge Saturday, and sits third in blue liner scoring with 15 points through 17 games played this season. The team will also receive an added boost up front, as dynamic forward, Matthias Urbanski will return after missing the last two games with a lower body injury.

Urbanski will slot in alongside Austin Becker and Brett Gammer in his return, while Rylan Nivon will remain alongside Quintin and Elijah Loon-Stewardson on the other top six unit.

Those six players have combined for 46 goals this season. NIpawin as a team have scored 46 goals this year.

While the Hawks’ offensive statistics may not leap off the page, what the team may lack in offensive production, they more than make up for with stifling defensive play.

The Hawks have allowed the fewest goals in the league this season, having surrendered just 36 goals-against through 16 games (2.25 goals-against per-game).

The only team with fewer goals allowed on a per-game basis is the North Stars, with 39 goals-against through 18 games, for an average of just 2.17 goals-against per-contest.

Due to the two sides’ defensive acumen, amongst the most prolific matchups on the night, features two of the league’s top goaltenders going head-to-head once again.

For the home side, the Stars will turn to Adam Dmyterko between the pipes.

The 19-year-old, Dmyterko has proven himself amongst the league’s elite at the goaltending position this season. The Saskatoon product has posted a perfect 11-0 record, to go along with a 2.25 goals-against average and .932 save percentage this year.

At the other end, the Hawks will likely counter with 20-year-old Ethan Slobozian.

One of two rookie standouts in the crease for the Hawks this season, through nine games Slobodzian has picked up five wins to go along with a 2.31 goals-against average and .914 save percentage.

Tuesday’s game will be broadcast on NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7:15 p.m. with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
