Security threats lead to reduced library hours in La Ronge

Nov 21, 2019 | 2:08 PM

After school and evening programs have been suspended at the public library in La Ronge.

A post on the library’s Facebook page said: “Due to security threats involving staff and patrons, creating safety concerns, the Alex Robertson Public Library will be temporarily reducing our hours of service.”

The library will now lock its doors at 4 p.m. Monday to Friday and close on Saturday.

La Ronge RCMP confirmed within the last week officers have been notified three times about the behaviour of some of the youth patrons on library grounds.

In an email to larongeNOW, RCMP said: “This includes one incident of mischief where a security camera was vandalized and two instances of behaviours causing a disturbance. These incidents are under current investigation with no charges laid thus far.”

The police did not direct the library to reduce hours but did say they are working with library management to find ways of preventing further incidents from occurring.

The reduced hours will stay in effect until further notice.
