Town of Wynyard set to host third annual Town Hall Meeting

The Town of Wynyard is set to host its third annual Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

“Council has decided to take a page out of the [Rural Municipality’s] book and decided to have a yearly town hall meeting where people can come, ask questions [and] hear what’s going on,” Chief Administrative Officer Jason Chorneyko said.

Chorneyko said it’s a good way for the town to kick off the New Year, allowing everyone to have their say.

The town put out a survey in December, allowing residents to get their questions and concerns in ahead of time. Chorneyko said they’ve already received responses.

“Of course people are interested in the new area here that we just constructed,” he said. “But it’s looking like residents don’t want us to forget about roads, water, sewer, and snow clearing.”

On the Wynyard Recreation Facebook page questions about the town’s taxes or attracting industry to the area were some of the points raised.

Chorneyko said by allowing residents to air their grievances and ask questions, it leads to more transparency in municipal government.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Civic Centre in town.
