Pinehouse Lake wins all five banners at Northern Lights Junior Games
Students from Pinehouse Lake swept the competition this week at the Northern Lights 2020 Junior Games.
The team took home all five banners from the event, which brought together approximately 300 Grade 6 to 9 students from nearly every school in the division. Students from Pinehouse proved they were among the best at the Games and were awarded banners for the highest overall medal count, athletics, cultural events, fine arts and sportsmanship.
“They worked hard, they were super humble, they helped us clean our school when it needed to be cleaned,” Churchill Community High School Vice-Principal Kristianna Merasty said. “They went above and beyond, so they did deserve all five banners.”
The Games came to an end Friday with a closing ceremony after a week of events, which included King and Queen Trapper events, broomball, basketball, cross-country skiing, jigging and more. Students travelled from communities such as Beauval, Buffalo Narrows, Cumberland House, La Loche, Pinehouse Lake and Sandy Bay, as well as from the Far North.
