Stolen Property Case

Two charged in Melfort break and enters

Mar 6, 2020 | 12:03 PM

A man and woman have been charged in relation to a string of break and enters.

Taylor Lariviere, 28, of Prince Albert and Melissa Shmyr, 24, of Melfort, were both charged with assault and possession of property obtained by crime. Lariviere has also been charged with identity theft and two counts of break and enter.

The charges stem from when Melfort RCMP received a complaint of a verbal altercation on Feb. 20 in the afternoon. Police was provided a description of Lariviere and Shmyr’s vehicle and it was located a short distance away from where a physical altercation took place.

RCMP found several pieces of stolen property, including driver’s licences, health cards, and credit cards in the vehicle. A release said police linked some of the stolen property to several thefts and break and enters in the Melfort area that took place over three weeks.

As the investigation is still ongoing, police encourage the public with information to call Melfort RCMP at 306-752-6420 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.

Lariviere has been remanded into custody and will appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Tuesday, March 17. Shmyr has been released and will appear in Melfort Court on Tuesday, March 31.
