Two Lac La Ronge Indian Band schools were placed on lockdown this afternoon due to what police described as a potential firearms threat.

According to an RCMP media release, at approximately 12:50 p.m. officers responded to a call for service for a firearms threat outside of Bells Point Elementary School. The school was placed into precautionary and hold procedures and, due to the nature of the occurrence, Senator Myles Venne School was placed on lockdown as well.

Further investigation revealed no active threat to students, staff or residents of the surrounding area. RCMP noted each school was subsequently released from hold and secure procedures.

The La Ronge RCMP would like to thank residents for their cooperation during this matter.
