Women entrepreneurs play a vital role in business in Prince Albert according to CEO Elise Hildebrandt, CEO of the Prince Albert & District Chamber of Commerce.

“Approximately 36% of the businesses in the Prince Albert area are headed by women,” said Hildebrandt. “This number shows the direct effect women have in keeping our local economy vibrant and strong.”

Hildebrandt made the comments in response to Women Entrepreneurs Week May 17-23, 2020 during which the Government of Saskatchewan is recognizing the province’s 33,300 female business owners for their contributions to the economy and labour market.

Female entrepreneurship in the province is above the national average and fourth highest among provinces. One in every eight women employed in Saskatchewan runs her own business.

Those women are also involved with the Chamber in the work it does Hildebrandt said.

“There is strength in numbers and speaking with a common voice. That is why many of the women who own their businesses are members of organizations such as the Chamber.”

“Membership entitles them to information, advocacy and a strong network as a support system.”

With the start of the Chamber’s year on June 1st, 2020, the Board of Directors will have four women Directors.

“Our Board, and of course the community, benefits from their business acumen and unique perspectives,” said Hildebrandt. “During this week highlighting women entrepreneurs, I encourage residents to support all local businesses who are the essence of our economy.”
