Letters Against Loneliness aims to boost morale of seniors isolated during pandemic
The Meadow Lake Housing Authority (MLHA) is calling on the community to help reduce isolation and loneliness among senior tenants within the city through the Letters Against Loneliness campaign. It was inspired by North Battleford’s Housing Authority which has seen great success with a similar program within the last two weeks.
MLHA manager Barb Arnold told meadowlakeNOW the organization houses over 107 seniors in four buildings who have had limited contact with people aside form essential workers for weeks, in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“While these changes are important measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, they can also impact the mental health of our seniors,” MLHA said in a statement. “The Letters Against Loneliness campaign will show seniors that their community is thinking of them and help to brighten their day.”
MLHA has taken precautions to protect vulnerable elderly people from the transmission of this virus including restriction of nonessential visitors to all buildings, closing all common lounge areas and suspended all social activities.
