While following COVID-19 safety precautions, NB City Cab owners and staff celebrated the business’ grand opening at their new establishment in North Battleford Thursday.

Located at the north end of 100 Street, NB City Cab is now taking calls for service.

The company is owned by co-partners Rashid Warraich, Malakai Seru and Jianfeng Liu.

“We are really happy and blessed with this new company,” Warraich said. “We will be happy to serve the community of North Battleford and Battleford. We aim to provide on-time service.”

He added the business will be using sanitized and well equipped cars.

The company will serve the Battlefords and surrounding area. It have five drivers working day shifts and three available for nighttime service.

Rev. Dexter Warren van Dyke blessed the business during the ceremony. Ten individuals took part in the event, each maintaining a social distance of two metres to comply with the province’s health orders in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the addition of NB City Cab there will now be two taxi companies serving the area.

The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce was pleased to see more growth for the community.

“It’s positive news anytime a business opens,” Chief Operating Officer Linda Machniak said.

She added to see a new establishment start during the COVID-19 pandemic in particular is a good sign for the future.

“We know that they have been working on it for some time of course, because as a licensed business they would have received their approvals from the City of North Battleford,” she said.

Having another establishment to serve residents, Machniak said, will be good for the community and the local economy as well.
