LaGrange to share details at 3:30

Alberta to announce school re-entry plan

Albertans will find out this afternoon the province’s plan for getting students back in classrooms following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Education Minister Adriana LaGrange will share details of the re-entry plan for the 2020-21 school year at a news conference scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, will also be at the news conference.

It was on March 15 that Alberta cancelled all kindergarten to grade 12 classes, as well as post-secondary classes, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 6, LaGrange said in-school classes would remain cancelled for the remainder of the current school year and that the province was considering three scenarios for resuming them in the fall. Those scenarios were:

• Normal school operations are able to resume

• Schools are partially re-opened, with some level of restrictions

• Teacher-directed at-home learning continues.

As part of Stage 2 of Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy, which will commence this Friday, schools can reopen for requested diploma exams and summer classes.
