Online Graduation

Hector Thiboutot Community School Online Graduation

Jun 29, 2020 | 9:39 AM

We are a northern community of around 1,200 people made up of predominantly First Nations people. We are also under the Northern Lights School Division 113.

Our school had 22 graduates this year and we delivered graduation directly to their homes in this COVID-19 conditions. We even had a lovely graduation trailer. It was all very nice in a ‘grassroots’ kind of way.

We also put together a 2-min video of our graduation day on 24 June from 2pm to 5pm. This video is below.

There is also a video of The Principal’s speech to the students in our village radio station on 23 June, 5pm.

This is the excerpt from his speech:

“My message to you is definitely to cling on to Hope. Far be it for me to deny it, we are living in the midst of a difficult time right now. Some see this as a time of crisis and despair. But I am confident that you, as future leaders of vision, passion and change, will see these as the birth pangs of renewal, of a new future that you can forge with your hands so as to make it a better world for everyone.”

Thank you to the team effort of Ms Rosina Ray (vice principal), her husband Mr Mike Morin (for constructing the stage), Mr Nathan Ray (vice principal) and Ms Beverly McDonald (Student Support Worker).
