Motorcade parade planned in tri-communities as show of support
A motorcade hosted by the Lac La Ronge Regional Pride Committee this upcoming Saturday will show support for the LGBTQ+ community, as well as the Black, Indigenous and People of Colour Movement (BIPOC).
“Both groups can understand what oppressed is in this day in age,” Committee Member Colin Ratushniak said. “We have come a long way, especially for the LGBT equality and the laws that have sort of protected us in that way. For BIPOC, we’re still seeing it to this day with police brutality and people being murdered for absolutely no reason simply because of the colour of their skin. It’s important for us to highlight that and really show support to people who are sill being oppressed in that way.”
Those wishing to participate in the motorcade should arrive at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre by 10:30 a.m. as it will leave 11 a.m. sharp. The route will span across the tri-communities, but the exact course will be kept secret until the day of the parade. Those participating are asked to decorate their vehicles in bright colours.
Ratushniak hopes by next summer restrictions due to the coronavirus are no longer in place, so a large festival like in 2019 can be held. The local committee was awarded a $12,700 grant to host a festival this year and the funds would have been spent showcasing local artists and performers.
