Attempted Phone Fraud

Carrot River RCMP reporting phone fraud attempts

Jun 30, 2020 | 5:00 PM

RCMP in Carrot River are warning the public of attempted telephone frauds making the rounds.

They say they have received several complaints from the public over the past week about a phone scam targeting local phone numbers.

The caller identifies themselves as an officer of the Canada Revenue Agency or Service Canada, and says the victim is under investigation by the RCMP.

The scammer then tries to get the victim’s Social Insurance Number or banking information.

Carrot River RCMP say the calls are attempted frauds, and you should never give personal details or banking information over the phone. They recommend hanging up the phone immediately as to avoid your privacy being compromised.

To report a fraud incident like this, or for more information, call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
