Peak flow advisory for the North Saskatchewan River

Jul 2, 2020 | 5:39 PM

The Water Safety Agency is advising the public that stream flows of the North Saskatchewan River are expected to be above normal.

According to a media release, the peak flows are expected to be 1,500 cubic metres per second. On the other hand, the water levels are expected to be the same as in late May. The peak flow will reach the Alberta Saskatchewan border on Sunday. It is expected to reach the Battlefords by July 7 and Prince Albert on July 10.

The WSA says the abnormally high levels are because of existing moisture levels and precipitation upstream.

Currently, Alberta is experiencing peak flows. The residents who live along these areas should be aware the high flows could be a safety risk and the water levels could damage property. Residents are also advised to be careful when near the river as the swift-moving flow can be hazardous.
