Fishing licences aren’t required in Saskatchewan this weekend

Anglers could be busy in Saskatchewan this weekend.

The summer free fishing weekend is Saturday and Sunday, when residents and visitors don’t need a licence to fish in any of the province’s bodies of waters that are open to sport fishing.

The rules don’t apply in national parks. As well, anyone planning to take what they catch out of the province must buy a licence.

“Free fishing weekend is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors to discover — or rediscover — the wonderful angling opportunities our province offers,” Environment Minister Dustin Duncan said in a media release.

“In Saskatchewan, you can stay close to home while enjoying some of the best freshwater fishing in the world.”

Even though licences aren’t required this weekend, all other fishing regulations will still be in effect. Public health orders and guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 also remain in place.
