Tapestrama Cultural Festival in September is going virtual

The Prince Albert Multicultural Council (PAMC) has announced the Tapestrama event in September is going virtual this year.

According to Executive Director Michelle Hassler, due to the government’s restrictions of large public gatherings they’re unable to hold the event as usual.

Instead of cancelling the event all together, the Prince Albert Multicultural Council’s annual Tapestrama Cultural Festival will be virtual on September 26 and 27. The event will be livestreamed on its Facebook page from noon to 6:30 p.m. on both days.

This year’s event will feature music, dances, and cultural performances.

“It will be like celebrating all the culture together in our own respective home safely,” Hassler explained.

Since food is such an important part of the Tapestrama event there will be multicultural food trucks in front of the PAMC office during the festival. There will also be two screens outside for the public to watch the show but attendance will be limited.

“Food is a huge part of Tapestrama and we always believe that with food we can bring people together,” she laughed. “The whole parking lot is going to be blocked and we will have volunteers to make sure there’s going to be social distancing.”

She added the public can expect two or three food trucks and have confirmed a Filipino and Vietnamese food truck.

During the livestream there will also be a trivia content with cash prizes.

“The important thing for us is despite COVID we would still be able to offer the celebration our cultural festival to the community,” Hassler said. “For PAMC to be able to support most especially our local and amazing musicians and artists within our province because they are also hit big time by COVID with concert cancellations.”
