MindBody Balance Therapies owner bringing back Strong as Mother series in Melfort

The owner of MindBody Balance Therapies in Melfort is bringing back the Strong as a Mother coffee and conversation series.

After a six-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Laura Lawrence will welcome a panel of speakers to RJ’s Urban Garden this month.

“I think that we have all found over the last six months that nothing can replace face to face connection,” Lawrence said.

With help from the owner of RJ’s, Lawrence has come up with a plan to host the event in a safe way. Tables will be spread out as they already are at the restaurant to abide by social distancing guidelines and there will be a maximum of six people to a table.

“We had become quite a collective sisterhood that so many of us look forward to getting together again in person and especially in these covid times,” Lawrence said.

Virtual Strong as a Mother events were held in the spring and were quite successful and gave the opportunity of attending to some different people.

“It was a platform to connect beyond our community where I had women from B.C. to Nova Scotia,” Lawrence said. “That was a cool opportunity to connect with new people.”

The most recent in-person Strong as a Mother event was held back in March before social gatherings were cancelled when the COVID-19 outbreak hit the province.

There will be three panel speakers at the Sunday, Sept. 20 event. At a typical coffee and conversation, Lawrence invites different women from the area to join a panel discussion where a limited number of tickets are available to the public.

The plan is to gather on the patio at RJ’s but if weather does not allow, it will be moved inside. There will be the opportunity to purchase tickets as a table of six, or individual tickets will also be available. Tickets will be limited to abide by social distancing guidelines.

Lawrence said she looks forward to seeing some familiar faces again and hopefully some new ones as well. Despite, the name of the series, Lawrence said the events are not just for mothers but for women in general to get together and connect.

Along with keeping the events going but on a virtual basis, Lawrence also held Teen Talk Tuesday for youth that wanted to connect while in isolation. Lawrence also hosted around 200 youth back in October 2019 for a Youth Matter Symposium which she had intended to host again this year but social gathering limits will pose a challenge on continuing that event for a second year.
