Choose Your Own Adventure

Melfort Public Library and city hosting choose your own adventure event

A choose your own adventure style event is coming up on Sept. 26 in Melfort.

The Melfort Public library is accepting registration of teams, and will run the event with help from the city as part of Culture Days.

Head Librarian Penny Markland said teams will be given a start location, where they will learn about their quest and complete challenges at each page of their adventure.

“Each page that you go to on your story, you will encounter fairy tale characters,” Markland said. “In order to get help from the characters you will have to complete the challenge and you will visit six different pages.”

The event is for adults and kids alike and is aimed toward families. A minimum of one adult per team is needed to drive from location to location with a maximum of six members. The event is expected to take around one hour or so per team.

To abide by social distancing guidelines, there are 12 pages total and two starting locations.

“We have two starting locations, start times are every 15 minutes starting at 1 p.m. and going up to 3:45 p.m.,” Markland said. “That works out to 12 groups per starting location so we can do 24 families or groups.”

Volunteers are also needed to portray fairy tale characters from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Call the library at 752-2022 for details or to sign up.

The usual collaboration of Culture Days events has been cancelled so this is an alternative for that, according to Markland.

“The library is doing most of the planning of the pages of the stories and the city is helping with materials, volunteers and so forth,” Markland said. “We kind of realized we should have been doing these collaborations all along.”

Deadline for entries will be accepted until the day before the event or until it fills up.
