Controlled Flare

Quill Lake area residents told to prepare for gas flare

Sep 28, 2020 | 11:00 AM

Residents of the Quill Lake area need not worry if they see a large red flame east of the community starting tomorrow.

SaskEnergy is conducting a series of controlled natural gas flares along Highway 5 until Saturday.

The flares are necessary for maintenance work on the natural gas line system and will pose no risk to the public.

During the process, gas line professionals will release natural gas from the system in a controlled burn to remove excess gas to reduce the carbon footprint of the vented natural gas by 85 per cent.

Local emergency responders have been notified of the upcoming events. There will be no disruption to customers during the process that is being completed over a number of days.

The flare will be seen coming from a flare stack attached to the SaskEnergy infrastructure south of the highway east of Quill Lake.
