Herperger hoping for seat on Humboldt city council

Chartered Professional Accountant Kelly Herperger has put her name forward for Humboldt City Council.

The daughter of former mayor and councillor, Mark Seidl, says it was an easy decision to run for a seat.

“It’s always been in my blood, I have been involved in many boards, politics, and I’m semi-retiring now so I’m thinking this might be my time to give back,” Herperger said.

Humboldt has been home for Herperger since 1969, attended school there and went to University at St. Peter’s in Muenster. She left for about 10 years but returned home in 1995 to work with her father at Hergott Seidl which is now HSA Management Ltd.

“Humboldt has been truly wonderful to us and has given us lots of opportunities,” Herperger said.

Herperger wants to see ongoing infrastructure projects continue including new pipes and streets.

“The past council has done a great job with updating our infrastructure as with any city in the province, infrastructure is a main thing because it is getting old,” Herperger said. “We just had a street done near our office this month and it is beautiful.”

She would also like to be progressive in promoting Humboldt and its businesses, schools, and facilities.

Community involvement is important to Herperger having worked with Humboldt Minor Hockey, the Humboldt Cooperative Daycare, Quill Plains regional games, Sask Winter games, Humboldt Golf Club, and Futuristic Industries.

There are 14 council candidates and three mayoral candidates that will appear on the ballot on Nov. 9.

Herperger said she is doing as much public relations as she possibly can while staying within the guidelines of the covid-19 pandemic.
