Prince Albert was well represented at the recent Miss World Canada Pageant with two local women competing.

The weeklong event, which concluded on Nov. 7, was held in Toronto and featured interviews, photo shoots, choreographed dances, and various walks including in evening wear and swimwear.

Though neither local contestant placed in the top 20, Prince Albert’s Natasha Tabuchi told paNOW the competition stretched and challenged her in new ways and was ultimately a great experience.

Tabuchi said one of the highlights was meeting and interacting with other contestants from across Canada.

“I met so many unique girls from so many different cultural backgrounds all with the most unique beautiful stories,” she said, adding she especially enjoyed learning about her fellow delegates’ platforms and how they were making a difference in their communities.

“They are all so inspiring, I think just to be around each other’s energy and to see what we were all doing, that itself was just empowering.”

Tabuchi said COVID-19 restrictions presented various obstacles for both contestants and producers, but ultimately everyone came out better for having met the challenge.

Not being able to have any spectators at the event was particularly difficult.

“You have this huge accomplishment and you want your friends and family to be there, not just in spirit but physically there,” she explained. “That was definitely tough, I know a lot of the girls were a little heart broken, but after the show everyone had family texting, calling and sending them flowers.”

Prince Albert’s Laeticia Mwayuma also competed in pageant, she was unavailable for an interview on Monday.
