Twinkle Tour to celebrate holiday spirit next month

Residents of North Battleford are invited to untangle their string lights and hang the stockings, as the third-annual Twinkle Tour will go ahead next month.

Presented by 1050 CJNB, in partnership with the City of North Battleford, the Twinkle Tour encourages locals to decorate their homes and light up their roofs, lawns, walls, and windows, with a variety of lights and other festive decorations, in celebration of the season.

Every person who registers their home to be part of the tour has a chance to win a prize just for entering, in addition to the grand prize winners, given for Best Decorated House, and Best Decorated Street.

The winner of Best Decorated House will receive a plaque to display at home, and a prize package from Magic Lantern Theatres, including a private movie showing for up to 35 people and a gift certificate for the concession.

The winner will also be given a plaque to be displayed at city hall, declaring them as the owner of the best-decorated house for the Twinkle Tour 2020.

The block judged to have the best decorated street will receive a street sign that will be hung on their block, along with a plaque at city hall that will be displayed proclaiming their block as Best-Decorated Street Twinkle Tour 2020.

The registration deadline for residents to enter their home in this year’s event will be Dec. 14. The official tour itself, will be held Dec. 17.

All those wishing to take part in the guided tour Dec. 17, are invited to meet (in their vehicles) at the NB Civic Centre at 6 p.m., leaving from the rink parking lot.

Participants are also invited to decorate their vehicles this year if they choose, and dress festive for the occasion.

Communications administrator with the city, Dustin MacDonald, said it has been great to see the Twinkle Tour grow since first being introduced a couple of years ago.

He said especially with all the uncertainty surrounding many seasonal events this year, the Twinkle Tour offers a fun and safe way to come together in community.

“It has really grown and I think people are looking forward to it,” MacDonald said. “I think this year has the potential to be one of the best ever, as this is going to be a great opportunity for North Battleford to really bring light to the season and some fun, festive spirit. This year especially, I think we really need that.”

Saskatchewan Country 1050 CJNB, will feature Christmas music throughout the evening, along with a running commentary from the on-air talent, including morning announcer Grant Schutte with special guest, Mayor David Gillan.

Not all houses will be included on the guided tour, but there will be a map highlighting all registered houses available on the city of North Battleford website and on CJNB.ca the day of the tour. All registered residences will be eligible for judging and prizes.
