Hudson Bay Drug Seizure

Hudson Bay RCMP doesn’t foresee a trend following multiple drug seizures

Dec 3, 2020 | 5:38 PM

Following the town’s first drug related search warrants since 2008, Hudson Bay RCMP wants to tell residents not to be worrisome.

In June 2020, counterfeit money cartons of illegal cigarettes, and drugs were seized from a residence on Bay Street, where a 56-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman, and a 23-year-old man faced possession related charges. Four months later, RCMP investigated the same residence on Bay Street and seized additional drugs and charged the same 56-year-old man and 26-year-old woman.

The third warrant – unrelated from the previous two – took place at a residence on Hardy Place in November, where a 22-year-old man from Hudson Bay and a 17-year-old woman from Regina were given numerous possession charges.

Sgt. Rod Rudnisky from the Hudson Bay/Porcupine Plain RCMP Detachment said they don’t worry that the drug seizures will become a trend.

“Sometimes we can become complacent if we don’t know there’s a presence of illegal substances,” Rudnisky told northeastNOW. “We want community members to be educated on what is happening so they can report the illegal activity to us, if they recognize it. If we don’t talk about it, people will not know it’s happening and to call the police.”

Rudnisky said a heavy amount of traffic at residences can be a sign of suspicious activity. He encourages Hudson Bay residents to call the detachment or send a report anonymously through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers if they believe drug related activities are transpiring.

The suspects involved in the drug seizures are going through various stages of the provincial court process.
