Children North, Men of the North and the RCMP have teamed up to deliver Christmas presents to more than 1,000 kids across northern Saskatchewan.

Children North was accepted to be The Bargain Shop’s charity for its annual toy drive held Dec. 5 in La Ronge. Executive Director Daina Lapworth explained Children North works with more than 300 kids across the North and, through the partnership with Men of the North, the two groups will be able to donate gifts for siblings and other kids in families as well.

“Its not very nice to just buy presents for one child in the home, so we are actually looking at more than 1,000 children totally with the families we work with,” she said. “We’ve never been able to do this ever before. It’s so exciting to be able to do something with this magnitude.”

Men of the North board member Jacob Kokura said by working with Children North, they would be able to maximize their donations as the gifts would get to where they are needed the most. Men of the North was able to make a contribution through donations received from throughout the year, as well as the Family Violence Prevention Fund.

He also credited the RCMP for joining the cause as officers will deliver the presents, even to some of the most remote communities.

“We at Men of the North really care about families in northern Saskatchewan,” Kokura said. “We know this past year has been hard for so many families. To be able to give back and to help support these families is a dream for us, we’re so excited about it and we look forward to many more opportunities in the future.”
