P.A. non-profit reflects on $60,000 Community Airtime Award

Feb 2, 2021 | 4:44 PM

A local non-profit group is reflecting on the boost it received almost a year ago when it secured a big, free, marketing shot in the arm: the $60,000 Power 99 Community Airtime Award, sponsored by Carpet World in Prince Albert.

The P.A. Early Years Family Resource Centre has just wrapped up its advertising, marketing and creative campaign, courtesy of the local Jim Pattison Broadcast Group radio station. And with this year’s award set to be presented to another worthy recipient, the non-profit’s coordinator is encouraging all such organizations in the city and area to apply.

“I would definitely recommend non-profit agencies apply for this,” Tobie Devitte told paNOW. “What an amazing opportunity to share all about who you are and what you offer. In Prince Albert there are a lot of hidden gems that families don’t know about.”

Devitte noted how people were becoming parents all the time and there are always new families to reach and new information to give. In the case of her organization, she said the free creative and marketing help was tailored to their specific needs, especially regarding early childhood education and the messaging they wanted to get out.

“Power 99 allowed us to spread the word about the importance of education and the role parents play as their children’s first teacher and primary advocate for the rest of their lives. It was amazing. Who else gets to spend $60,000 to bolster community and to encourage families, especially in this pandemic?” she said.

Power 99 has, for a number of years, helped a local non-profit make a splash on the airwaves by granting the $60,000 in kind for the entire advertising campaign rollout.

“We’re always delighted to bring our broadcast, marketing and creative expertise to the aid of community-based projects,” Danny Kid, the Program Director for Power 99 told paNOW. “We get a big kick out of bringing the power of radio to everyone and I understand our Community Airtime Award really helped the PA Early Years Family Resource Centre over the past year.

“We look forward to receiving nominations from the community for our 2021 award; the free $60,000 professional marketing program goes a long way to help non-profits, and, in previous years it has also helped The Children’s Haven, MADD, Big Brothers and Sisters, Fresh Start, and PA Food Box.”

Any non-profit can be nominated for the award. There’s a form to fill out on the Power 99 website.

The deadline is Feb.17, and the 2021 winner will be announced Feb. 22.
