Pink Shirt Day initiative to support local Boys and Girls Club

Local clothing store FF2 Get Dressed has partnered with the Battlefords Boys and Girls Club to help raise awareness and stand up against bullying, in support of Pink Shirt Day this month.

In an effort to encourage the community to take part in the national anti-bullying initiative, FF2 will be revealing new specially-designed T-shirts Monday Feb. 8, via their weekly Facebook live video series, ‘Coffee talk with Tammy.’ All proceeds from shirt sales will be donated to the local Boys and Girls Club.

This will be the second year FF2 has partnered with the community non-profit, and the first year the shirts have been designed by a member of the Boys and Girls Club, as nine-year-old, Ryleigh will have her artwork featured on the shirts this year.

Manager of FF2 and host of the coffee talk, Tammy Ramsay said adding the local artwork element to the shirts this year just makes next week’s reveal all the more special.

“I just think it’s really cool that this year the shirt was actually designed locally by one of the Boys and Girls Club members,” Ramsay said. “It’s definitely something we’re really excited about, and we hope to make it an annual thing where the local [kids] can have a chance to design the T-shirts.”

Executive Director with the Boys and Girls Club, Nicole Combres said the non-profit is happy to be able to partner with FF2 on an initiative close to their heart, as strong supporters of the anti-bullying message highlighted by Pink Shirt Day.

“The core values that we ascribe to here at the Boys and Girls Club really align with the messages of Pink Shirt Day and anti-bullying, so we’re really excited to be able to partner with FF2 to make this happen,” she said.

Combres added she is also extremely proud of Ryleigh, and hopes this experience is something she can look back on with fondness as she gets older.

“Ryleigh is always a real joy to have here and always has a smile on her face, so we’re really excited her drawing was chosen to be the design on the shirt,” Combres said. “I hope she takes pride in, and is proud of, what she designed for us and that this really provides her with a fond memory from her time with the club.”

Following Monday’s reveal, the specially-designed T-shirts will be available to order online through the FF2 website, or via the FF2 Get Dressed store, located in the Discovery Co-op Mall.

Pink Shirt Day is an annual anti-bullying initiative which will be recognized across Canada Feb. 24.
