Foam Lake Health Foundation reaches digital x-ray goal

The Foam Lake and District Health Foundation has reached their digital x-ray campaign fundraising goal.

The $254,000 campaign is the first to come to completion for the recently developed foundation.

Co-chair Colleen Kostiuk said they brought the funds in rather quickly.

“We figured it would probably be a two-year project but it took us just over a year,” Kostiuk said. “We had such great support and Chase the Ace raised more than we had anticipated, so we did very well.”

Kostiuk has been part of the foundation alongside Graham Farrel since it’s inception in the fall of 2019. The digital x-ray was the first item on the wish list for the foundation.

As of Dec. 31, 2020, the foundation had reached their goal for the equipment that was installed in January of 2020.

During the campaign, the local credit union promised to match any personal donations made up to $50,000.

Breast of Friends donated proceeds from cookbooks for a total of $18,000. The local Elks club also raised $7,500 for the foundation.

The town of Foam Lake donated $25,000 to the campaign and the farmers marketing club raised $17,000 from their crop outside of town.

“(Youtube star) Quick Dick McDick was instrumental in getting us a lot of donations as well,” Kostiuk said.

The foundation was formed after the hospital auxiliary dismantled with the amalgamation of health regions.

“We have a 40-50 bed nursing home and the health centre facility includes home care, public health and primary care,” Kostiuk said. “there is always equipment needed for these different user groups so we will continue on and find our next project.”

Nothing has been finalized for the next campaign but there have been a number of suggestions, according to Kostiuk.

“I still work casually after retiring and this equipment has been great,” Kostiuk said, “From an old tech starting out with film and liquid developing, it is awesome.”

The Foam Lake Chase the Ace committee began selling tickets last March. The fundraiser brought in over $35,000 in 43 weeks.

“We want to thank everyone that supported that fundraiser and those that made any sort of donation to get us to our goal,” she said.
