Meadow Lake RCMP arrest driver in possession of gun and drugs

A man is in custody after being pulled over by police early Monday morning.

Shortly after 1 a.m., Meadow Lake RCMP stopped a driver as they were pulling off of Railway Avenue. Police discovered the driver was prohibited from driving, leading officers to launch an investigation. The investigation revealed the driver to be in possession of cash, cocaine, prescription drugs, multiple cell phones and a rifle.

RCMP seized the items and arrested the 32-year-old male driver. Barry Opikokew has been charged with trafficking cocaine, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of a restricted weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Opikokew remains in custody and is expected to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on February 25.
