BORA approves of parks and trails master plan for La Ronge
Dr. Daniel Irvine with the Boreal Outdoor Recreation Association (BORA) was excited to learn town council is moving ahead with the La Ronge Parks Open Spaces and Trails 20-Year Master Plan.
“We are happy to see they are moving forward with it,” he told larongeNOW. “I think people in La Ronge and the tri-community have always prioritized access to the outdoors, but within the context of the pandemic, its been a reminder of the importance of access to the outdoors and its role in both physical and mental health.”
The plan isn’t expected to be complete until the end of November and the creation of it will include engagement and consultation with the general public and local groups. Irvine noted he expects BORA will be included in those decisions as volunteers maintain 14 kilometers of trails within municipal limits.
Irvine also believes 20 years is an appropriate amount of time for such a plan considering trail building is an extensive process. He mentioned when constructing new trails, it’s important to know the path isn’t going through space that could be developed in a few years.
