Human remains found in field in the Watrous area

Mar 16, 2021 | 2:58 PM

Watrous RCMP say human remains have been found in a field in the RM of Morris.

On Feb. 28, around 3:20 p.m., Mounties responded to a complaint of a human skull found by people while looking for shed antlers.

An autopsy was conducted on March 3 and has determined the individual was likely female between 25-35 years of age. The remains do not appear to be historical in nature, according to the autopsy.

The investigation continues and it has not been confirmed whether the death is considered suspicious.

RCMP, Major Crimes Unit South, and Saskatchewan Police Services are collaborating and may also team up with neighbouring provinces to further efforts in identifying the deceased. Investigators are hoping DNA comparison can help identify her.

The RM of Morris includes the communities of Watrous, Manitou Beach, Young and Zelma.

Anyone with information is asked to report it to Watrous RCMP at 306-946-3316 or to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
