Mar 29, 2021 | 1:30 PM

A Meadow Lake man remains in custody after being arrested as part of a gang violence suppression initiative.

On March 26, RCMP responded to a reported disturbance in Green Lake shortly after midnight. When officers arrived on scene, they launched an investigation into an individual suspected of illegally possessing a gun. The investigation revealed the suspect was carrying a .45 calibre revolver, and the man was arrested.

Thirty-six-year-old Damien Morin faces several charges, including uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a weapon obtained by crime. Morin is expected to appear in court on April 1 for a bail hearing.

The Meadow Lake RCMP added they received numerous calls regarding possible gunshots around 11:30 p.m. on March 27. After responding to the calls on the east side of the city and in Flying Dust First Nation, police determined the noise came from fireworks being set off by an intoxicated individual. The individual was given a warning and no charges were laid.
