Fourth outbreak declared at Sask. Penitentiary
For the fourth time since the start of the pandemic, an outbreak has been declared at Saskatchewan Penitentiary.
As of Monday, there were 23 active inmate cases (medium security unit), and eight active staff cases. According to a statement provided to paNOW from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), inmates with the active cases are medically isolating, and staff who have tested positive for COVID are self-isolating at home.
“Mass testing and contact tracing is underway for offenders and staff,” the statement said.
The CSC explained a number of measures are in place including a modified routine to minimize close contacts, suspended visits, increased use of personal protective equipment, enhanced cleaning measures and monitoring and testing staff and offenders.
