Raiders’ Moe, Nachbaur and Paddock to play their final WHL game tonight

Apr 28, 2021 | 2:00 PM

The weirdest Western Hockey League (WHL) season of all time will come to an end tonight for the Prince Albert Raiders, who will take on the Swift Current Broncos tonight at 8 p.m. in the Subway Hub Centre.

It will be the last WHL game for Spencer Moe, who’s spent all five of his major junior seasons with the Raiders. Moe will play in his 286th career game with the Raiders, which is good for sixth all time in games played for the franchise. Moe was a part of the 2019 Ed Chynoweth Cup-winning Raiders side. He also put up 45 goals and 128 points in his career.

Justin Nachbaur will also be graduating after tonight’s game, who also was a part of the 2019 title-winning Raiders team. Nachbaur currently leads the WHL in fights with five, and a big part of the Raiders’ being tied for the league lead in fighting majors with 16—along with the Red Deer Rebels. Nachbaur will play in his 216th game with the Raiders tonight, and has 44 goals and 88 points thus far. Nachbaur also has eight goals this season, tying him for the team lead alongside Evan Herman.

And the third player to graduate from the Raiders is goaltender Max Paddock, who was added from the Regina Pats in last year’s WHL trade deadline. Paddock has played 23 games with the Raiders, and almost single-handedly turned around the Raiders’ goaltending woes last year, posting a 13-3-1-2 record with a .935 save percentage and 1.67 goals against average. Paddock started his career with the Regina Pats, and will finish it tonight at the Brandt Centre in the Queen City.
