A university graduating class consisting of 23 students from Northlands College will begin working in their chosen field in a much different world than when they started studying years ago.

“I do want to congratulate you on this impressive achievement,” said Lt.-Gov. Russell Mirasty, who was one of a number of dignitaries invited to speak during an online ceremony Friday. “Today is an accumulation of your hard work and perseverance, and I am sure many of you faced personal challenges along with having to deal with how COVID has changed our world, but here you are. You are university graduates and you should be proud of that.”

Mirasty noted the graduates now have the skills and knowledge to be resilient, as well as adaptable because of the pandemic-related changes in the world today. He added challenges still lay ahead, but the graduates have a ‘tremendous’ future in front of them.

Northlands College CEO Guy Penney also addressed the graduates as he said their accomplishments are noted and appreciated. He also talked about how they were faced COVID-19 public health orders and the impact of the virus all while trying to achieve their goals.

“Normally, graduation is an accomplishment in and of itself, a very great accomplishment, but graduation during a pandemic with all of the challenges that have gone with that, is really a tremendous accomplishment on all of your part,” Penney said. “You’ve basically done what’s been asked, you’ve done your work and today you can celebrate the fruits of your labour.”
