The Miller Market and Food Gallery is taking their store on the road this summer to markets in the northeast.

The gallery carries several different local products and opened in June of last year. Stock will still be on hand, but the store front will close on June 19.

Owner Tammy Miller said it was a difficult decision to make but they were finding their customers were coming from across the region, not just Melfort.

“Our goal is to provide people with local food so now we are just expanding our area,” Miller said.

Miller said operations will remain as normal as possible as they expand their reach.

“We will operate mainly on our farm which is south of town, and we will open that to the public, but we just need a bit of time to get it set-up,” Miller said.

Products are still available online as well and, in the store, but they may be stocked in lower quantities according to Miller.

“Moving out to the farm will also give us the opportunity to add to our events side,” Miller said.

Miller Market events has hosted a haunted farmyard and an escape farm last year.

On top of bringing in Saskatchewan producers, the Millers’ have their own products in store as well.

“We have an iced tea line that we are creating, and my husband is also working on a cold brew coffee recipe, so we hope to add that too,” Miller said. “Another popular item is our edible cookie dough.”

Feedback on products is always welcomed at the Miller Market so they can do their best to accommodate everyone’s needs.

“We are always looking for sampler. So if there is a product you would like to try, stop in and we can send it home with you to try,” Miller said. “If you like it, come back and pay us. If you hate it, bring it back.”

Over the course of the pandemic, Miller said it has been more important than ever to support local.

“We know that local food can be a bit more expensive, but it does go a lot further,” Miller said. “I encourage people to look past the price tag and look for the quality and support local.”

When the market first opened one year ago, it was much busier than anticipated but Miller said things did slow down over this winter and spring. She said COVID has people fearful of leaving their homes but they did begin to offer delivery and curbside pick-up.

“Income also effects how much they can purchase but overall, we do have very dedicated customers,” Miller said. “The trick is to make the food more accessible so if we can do that by setting up at markets in other communities, we will do that.”

The store front will remain open until June 19 with products still on hand in the building until operations move to the farm that is located south of Melfort off of Highway 6.
