City of Melfort staff conduct drive-by in support of fellow staff dealing with health issues

Residents in Melfort may have noticed a lot more city vehicles than normal driving down their street on Tuesday, June 1.

According to Brent Lutz, the city’s Director of Development, Planning, and Community Relations, it was in relation to three city staff members who have been dealing with some serious health issues during the pandemic.

“This has been an especially difficult time for them as they’ve been isolated from their coworkers and their friends,” Lutz told northeastNOW. “So our city crews took an hour out of their time [on Tuesday] to do a drive-by.”

City crews jumped into their fire trucks, ambulances, and city vehicles to drive by the houses of their three fellow staff members.

Lutz said it was important to the families, as well as the coworkers who wanted to show they cared about their work family.

“It was an important thing to do for the families that have been isolated,” he said. “And it was a great opportunity for their coworkers who have wanted to have some way to express their thoughts and feelings towards their friends that are going through this right now.”

Lutz added that sometimes city staff spend more time around each other than their own family, making something like this that much more important.
