Humboldt Water Ridge Park committee receives Co-op Community Spaces grant

The Humboldt Water Ridge Park project is one of this year’s recipients of the Co-op Community Spaces grant.

Humboldt Co-op has donated $90,000 to the project that will bring a pickleball court, and a playground to the park that already features a walking path, spray park, and more. The playground will also now have recycled rubber ground as part of the project.

“Sustainability is one of our pillars that we operate on at Humboldt Co-op,” said Humboldt Co-op General Manager Brent Walker. “And to be able to have a sustainable, environmental area for families, that’s right up our alley.”

There were over 1,000 applicants across Western Canada for the Community Spaces grants and the Water Ridge Park committee was one of 15 recipients for 2021.

Committee President Breanna Landry said the $90,000 is a major help as they worked towards their $175,000 goal.

“The project will now be completed,” she said. “So, fundraising and everything is all done now and the project will be completed at the end of August this summer.”

Overall, $201,750 was raised for the project.

Landry added that equipment has already been ordered and work is expected to begin in July. She said the additions to the park will be quite welcome to the community and residents are excited.

“It’s going to be a park that people are going to want to come to in Humboldt,” Landry said. “With the waterpark here, plus the pickleball court, and now an awesome play structure, it’s going to be one of the parks that people are going to want to see.”
