Twin Rivers Curling Club announces new G.M. among personnel updates for fall 2021

North Battleford’s Twin Rivers Curling Club has made a couple of changes to their front office in preparation for the 2021-22 curling season.

Kathy McNinch has been named the club’s new general manager– helping ease the burden on Doug Flasch– who served as both general manager and ice technician last year. Flasch will keep his position as ice technician.

President, Al Gabert said the club is looking forward to the season ahead with their new management arrangement.

“I think it’s going to be good for the club, and it’s nice to have two people working again, as the job is just too big for one person to be both the ice maker and a full-time manager,” Gabert said. “Kathy’s a good fit for us, she has good experience and I think she’ll really do the job well.”

McNinch was the first manager of Twin Rivers, and was key in the startup of the Northland Power Curling Centre in 2012. She also provides experience from working with several community-based organizations and was a volunteer member of the CUplex fundraising committee.

For Flasch, the transition will allow him to focus solely on the ice technician side of things within the club, something he had expressed interest in after getting a feel for the position last year. Flasch will assist McNinch in the transition as well this summer.

“With the pandemic and everything [last year] we knew it was going to be kind of a slow year, so I figured I’d try it, and I quite liked it,” Flasch said. “I figured I’d like to give [the ice technician position] a whirl full-time this year, and fortunately we found someone for the manager position, so it should be a good dynamic moving forward.”

McNinch will join the Twin Rivers management team in her new position, effective July 12. The curling season will begin in mid-October, with a full expectation for a return to regular programming this year.

Twin Rivers remains open through the summer, as does the Beaver Grill Restaurant on the second level, and is taking bookings for events of up to 800 people as of later this month when provincial COVID restrictions are removed across Saskatchewan.
