Fire crews continue working to contain the perimeter of a fire north of Dorintosh while the fire southwest of Beauval is still receiving efforts to keep the contained fire under control.

The STRIKE fire is estimated to be nearly 3,300 hectares in size, and continues to receive suppression efforts from type one and two crews, helicopter and air tanker support and heavy equipment crews. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency reported progress has been made with the blaze since yesterday’s update.

The FORKS fire is still being classified as a contained fire, but is still seeing efforts from crews to keep the blaze under control. The wildfire is said to occupy 125 hectares. Crews are working the south and west flanks with hose lines and heavy duty equipment.

The LOCK fire near Buffalo River Dene First Nation continues to receive support from type one, two and three crews, helicopter and air support, Emergency Response Team members and heavy equipment. The size of the wildfire is being estimated at more than 26,000 hectares, and efforts to continue working the perimeter with water tenders and bucket support when necessary.

There are now 169 active wildfires across Saskatchewan as of July 20, 2021. The total number of fires to date is currently at 439 throughout this year, which is more than double the five-year average of 216 fires.

Of the active fires, 17 are said to be contained, 25 are still receiving efforts to protect nearby infrastructure and property and 20 have yet to be secured. The remaining 107 fires are still under assessment by the SPSA.
