RCMP searching for missing kayaker

UPDATE: At 2 p.m. on July 29, the La Ronge RCMP informed larongeNOW that the kayaker has been located and is safe.

The La Ronge RCMP are searching for a missing kayaker.

According to an RCMP news release, on July 28 at approximately 5:10 p.m., La Ronge RCMP received a report of a missing kayaker in Hunters Bay on Lac La Ronge.

The kayaker, a 73-year-old male, was separated from a group of canoers around 11 a.m. on July 27. The man was in a brown, homemade wooden kayak.

He is described as approximately 6-1 and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket and a straw hat.

A search for the man is underway with the assistance of the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and the Canadian Rangers.

La Ronge RCMP is asking the public to report any sightings of the man or his kayak to the detachment at 1-306-425-6730 or by calling 911.
