Sask Baseball HOF and Museum to reopen to public Thursday

Aug 3, 2021 | 5:18 PM

The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will be reopening their doors to the public Thursday, Aug. 5.

The establishment has been closed to the public for nearly a year and a half since March 2020, shortly after the pandemic began. Hours of operation upon opening will be Monday to Friday from 1-4 p.m.

CEO and president, Jane Shury said when people do come back to the museum, they can expect to see a new look bright exterior inviting them in.

“After the COVID pandemic, I just felt we all could use some brightening up, including to the outside of our Sask Baseball Hall of Fame,” she said. “The purpose was to brighten up the building and town, and draw some attention, which I think has been a success.”

2021 Induction Ceremony

The reopening to the public also comes just ahead of the annual induction ceremony for the Class of 2020, which has been rebranded as the Class of 2021 and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Aug. 21.

Shury said they are very much looking forward to connecting with the community, and hosting their induction ceremony to celebrate some of the best in baseball once again this year.

“It is certainly exciting because we haven’t seen some of these people who come and support us by our fundraising projects which are so important in some time, so we’re happy to welcome people back in,” Shury said.

“We’re very busy, and have been since July 11 when Premier Moe lifted the restrictions, so we expect we’ll have a good crowd Aug. 21, for our 36th Annual Induction.”

The Sask Baseball Hall of Fame was able to survive the pandemic largely due to the support of community sponsors and businesses and the odd government grant they were able to apply for.

The establishment relies heavily on their fundraisers each year to continue operations. This year, with the recent wind damage to the shingles atop the building’s roof, fundraising efforts will be even more important as they try to repair the damages caused by the severe winds.

Following the Induction ceremony, the next fundraiser for the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will be Ears and Beers in September.
