Annual Ears and Beers Fundraiser to return to Battlefords Friday

The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will hold their sixth annual Ears and Beers Fundraiser, Friday, Sept. 17 at the Battleford Legion Hall.

One of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the HOF, the event will begin with happy hour at 4:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 5:30 p.m.

As the name would suggest, the meal will include corn on the cob with butter, as well as barbecue hamburgers, hot smokies, baked beans, salads, fresh buns and dessert, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available as well.

President and CEO of the Hall, Jane Shury said they are looking forward to being able to host the event again this year, after last year’s fundraiser had to be cancelled, due to the pandemic.

“We’ve got some posters out and a lot of emails and phone calls, with some of the people who came out in previous years saying how glad they are to have the event back again this year,” Shury said. “It’s nice to hear that, and we’re looking forward to a good turnout again this year.”

In addition to the food and beverages, there will also be raffles and a door prize, as well as a number of games for those in attendance to take part in throughout the evening.

Games will include a beanbag toss and table tennis. Shury said the games always make for a fun wrinkle to the evening, as something all ages can take part in and have fun with.

“People always get a kick out of that and have some good laughs,” she said. “It’s a chance for people to just be a kid for a while; and they really get some fun out of that.”

Shury added she’d like to thank all the sponsors and those in the community, who have donated prizes for the event, and helped contribute to the return of the fundraiser this year.

“We get donations for this from business people in the Battlefords which we are really grateful for, because it is a real boost to be able to hold a fundraiser like this one,” she said. “We did have the Induction Ceremony that went really well [last month], so we’re hoping to have a good crowd for this as well.”

Tickets for Friday’s event are $15, with pre-registration required to attend the Ears and Beers Fundraiser. To learn more, or to register, call the Sask Baseball Hall of Fame at (306) 446-1983. All who attend will be asked to use the hand-sanitizer at the door. Masks are not required, but remain optional.
