Oil, gas and infrastructure important topics as Wagantall seeks re-election

Conservative incumbent, Cathay Wagantall, will be seeking re-election on Sept. 20 in her riding of Yorkton-Melville.

The honour of representing the riding, including her hometown of Esterhazy, has been an honour she would like to continue, she said.

“The privilege of being out within the communities, it’s just amazing to see a lot of the common issues that they face,” Wagantall told northeastNOW. “And to also meet people and to see how crucial really rural Canada is to the prosperity and the health and the wealth of the whole nation.”

Infrastructure funding for rural Canada is an important part of the Conservative platform, she said.

Resource protection is also a key part of the platform, including work to ensure that resource transportation is not hindered by protests, including in the oil and gas sectors.

“We know that our products are some of the best in the world,” Wagantall said. “They’re also the most environmentally and ethically produced. And they’re already moving towards net zero (greenhouse gas emissions) within the oil and gas industry in Canada.”

The continued need of oil and gas is there, she said, and who better than Canada to provide that service?

“We are the ones that are the most ethically and environmentally clean and provide an excellent product,” she said.

Wagantall was first elected as MP of the Yorkton-Melville riding in 2015 and has been proud of the work of her staff in helping the people of her riding. As she has been campaigning and talking with her constituents, Wagantall is happy to hear how her office has helped them.

“And we certainly work for everyone that lives within the constituency. Even as I’m going door knocking I hear such good reports on my staff and the work that they do on behalf of Canadians, especially this past while with COVID.”

Wagantall feels for her staff as they helped constituents work though the pandemic and staff were in tears trying to help desperate people during that time, she said.

The best way to get back to normal right now is to get Saskatchewan and Canada open, she said.

“Our economy’s in such dire straits. And we know that we can turn that around by getting people back to work and opening up all sectors of our economy.”

Canadians will now go to the polls on Sept. 20. Advanced polls closed on Sept. 13.
