Plus Industries celebrates 40 years of service

Local organization, Plus Industries in Melfort, opened their doors to celebrate their 40th anniversary with an open house and barbecue to showcase their services.

Coordinator of Financial Services, Candy Tyacke, said the program offers support to participants with a variety of programs such as confidential shredding and contract services.

“Plus Industries is a day program for intellectually challenged individuals. We have certain services like our day program, a wood shop, supportive living services, we operate cardboard and recycling and we help operate the SARCAN depot,” Tyacke said.

The organization also has a retail location, Plus Stuff Junction, which sells products produced by Plus Industries.

Tyacke told northeastNOW despite the work the company has done in the past 40 years, the most important thing is being able to help the north east community.

“Just being able to provide service to people in the north east. Our participants come from Tisdale, Kinistino, Gronlid and Melfort. We’re just glad to be able to provide service,” Tyacke said.

Plus Industries also offers supported employment which provides adults with intellectual disabilities training, coaching and supporting while searching for paid employment.

Tyacke said they’re looking forward to the future where they can expand to help others who are in need of their services.

“Hopefully trying to offer different services for participants. Hopefully going to be opening another group home in the future to help support those who need us,” Tyacke said.

General Manager Sharon Chetwynd, thanks the community for the turnout as well as their recognition for all Plus Industries does to help those in the community and hopes to build on their 40-year foundation.

Currently there are 60 participants in the various programs offered. The programs focus on helping participants with community integration and meeting independence goals.
