Melfort’s Donor’s Choice has once again gone virtual for their 2021 campaign, allowing members of the community to choose to help up to 17 different local charities from the comfort of their own homes.

Lisa Tadgell, chair of the Donor’s Choice charity and also a member of the #171 Melfort Phoenix Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, said the the Donor’s Choice is the super center of donations.

“Before my time some brilliant heads sat down and decided how all these separate charities could work as one entity to benefit the entire community while still serving with their own charities.” Tadgell said.

With the COVID-19 pandemic’s ongoing affects, the charity has decided to go virtual for the second time.

“We were very apprehensive. Last year was most definitely an extremely curious years but the people of Melfort totally pulled through and our donations were even higher than the year before.” Tadgell told northeastNOW.

The charities featured this year are The Arthritis Society, Canadian Diabetes, Association, The Canadian Red Cross Society, Early Childhood Intervention Program – North East – Special Needs Children, Lupis SK Society inc., Melfort Food Bank inc., Melfort Group Home inc., #171 Melfort Phoenix Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, Melfort Public Library, Multiple Sclerosis Society, North Central Health Care Foundation, North East Outreach and Support Services, North East SPCA, Operation Fill-A-Backpack, Plus Industries, Special Olympics – Melfort and a new addition to the donors list this year, Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS).

Tadgell said Donor’s Choice put it to a vote and decided that STARS, a Canadian non-profit helicopter air ambulance organization, was voted in at one of their meetings.

“We have two meetings a year and anyone interested in bringing their charity on board is requested to join us at a meeting.” Tadgell said.

For those wanting to make a donation, the process is the same as last year with three ways to donate.

  1. Mail to P.O. Box 3793, Melfort, SK.
  2. Direct deposit or night deposit box at the Affinity Credit Union in Melfort
  3. E-transfer to donorschoice@gmail.com. Be sure to indicate donation amount for agency and mailing address.

The Donor’s Choice event will run until Oct. 31.

Tadgell said the organization wanted to thank everybody in advance for their donations, as well as their past donation.
