Mandatory Vaccines

Horizon School Division making vaccinations mandatory for employees

Oct 6, 2021 | 11:04 AM

The Horizon School Division (HSD) will require their employees to be vaccinated or provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

The policy comes in response to the provincial vaccine mandate and negative test requirement that was implemented on Oct. 1 for certain public places.

In a release, Director of Education Kevin Garinger said, “we feel it is important to establish this administrative procedure in order to maintain a safe environment for our students, staff, and families.”

The HSD will implement the policy by mid to late October.

The mandate will apply to all employees including substitutes who are dealing with students on a day-to-day basis, contractors such as bus drivers and those who provide food services, child care providers in HSD facilities, individuals and organizations providing services to students during the school day as well as volunteer coaches and drivers.

Students will not need to provide a proof of vaccination to attend school except when they are deemed a close contact to a household case of COVID-19.
