Stars lose hard-fought game in Humboldt

Despite a spirited effort, the Battlefords North Stars came up short against the Humboldt Broncos for the second night in a row.

Playing with only 18 skaters, due to health protocols, the Stars lead after the first period, but the Broncos scored three in the second, enroute to a 6-4 home win. Like on Friday night, an ill-timed penalty lead to a Broncos power-play tally, which gave them their first lead of the contest. The loss drops the Stars to 5-3-1 on the season.

Head Coach Brayden Klimosko said he was pleased with the team for giving everything in spite of playing without a full roster.

“I’ve been pretty proud of them, they went after it and competed,” he said. “I thought we played really well, went toe to toe with them.

In praising his team, Klimosko also paid several compliments to the Broncos and their goaltender Rayce Ramsay.

“He’s a difference maker at times and he made a couple of highlight reel saves that changed the game,” Klimosko said.

Dylan Esau had a solid night on the offensive end, with a goal and two assists. The North Stars bench boss said Esau has shown a lot of improvement in the last few games.

“He’s been a horse and hopefully he keeps developing into the leader I believe he can be.”

Klimosko also credited Colby Bear, who scored for the second straight game, and goaltender Cameron Beson, who made 35 saves. Despite the two losses this weekend, he believes they are moving in the right direction.

“I really like where the group is at and I give them a lot of credit for listening and trying to change when told,” Klimosko said. “It’s been a fun one so far.”

“We need a little bit of a reset and it doesn’t get any easier against Melfort on Wednesday.”

The North Stars will take on the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. in Melfort On October 13.
