Pharmasave teams up with operation Fill-A-Backpack to help 248 students

Melfort Pharmasave partnered with fellow Melfort organizations Partners to End Poverty and the Salvation Army to provide school supplies for this year’s Operation Fill-A-Backpack.

Veronica Fedorychka, front store manager, said they tried a new approach this year to donations.

“Previously we had taken supply donations and then when they come to pick them up, they are there,” Fedorychka told northeastNOW. “So this year we came up with a window hanger.”

Pharmasave sold backpack-shaped window hangers to raise funds. UltraTech created the designs, which displayed the names of donors.

In total, 50 backpack window hangers were sold.

Salvation Army and Partnership to End Poverty expressed their gratitude to Pharmasave.

“In the end we were able to give them money to purchase products and they actually ended up purchasing them from us,” Fedorychka said.

In Melfort, Tisdale, and Naicam, the backpacks were distributed to children in need of school supplies.

The partnership isn’t the first, or the last, of its kind between Pharmasave and Operation Fill-A-Backpack, Fedorychka stated.

Pharmasave wishes to continue offering support to the community in any way they can in order to “support those who support us.”

“Our pharmacy is community driven. This summer we partnered with the library and donated prizes for both July and August when they had their reading program, when they had the scavenger hunt,” said Fedorychka.

Operation Fill-A-Backpack provides essential school supplies for kids in the community. A backpack could contain items such as lunch boxes, crayons, markers, pencil sharpeners, notebooks, glue sticks, scissors, rulers, highlighters, pens, calculators and pencils.
