‘Shop Local’ campaign surfaces in Meadow Lake

Oct 21, 2021 | 4:01 PM

A campaign focused on promoting businesses local to the Meadow Lake area has popped up on some social media accounts in the community.

The Meadow Lake & District Chamber of Commerce has assembled a series of promotional videos that highlight businesses while encouraging viewers to spend their money at local establishments rather than companies away from home.

The campaign has led to the creation of a new social media account for the Chamber of Commerce on Instagram, which currently displays three testimonial-like videos and 25 images of business owners.

There are six videos available on the Chamber’s Facebook account.

Solitude Trophy & Frames owner Bailey Moore stated the campaign not only promotes business in the community, but helps provide a crucial aspect in stimulating the local economy as well.

“The Shop Local Campaign is great because it puts focus on the businesses right here,” she said.

“Shopping locally means you’re helping to employ local people who live, support and raise their family right here in Meadow Lake. It brings awareness to everyone on how great our community is, along with everything that we have to offer.”

This movement comes at a time where many businesses in the area are required to make frequent adaptations to continue operation under new expectations and guidelines put in place to improve public health.

“People spending their money in the local stores helps to keep the local businesses operating and the local people employed,” Moore said.

This statement holds weight as some businesses in the community are facing staffing shortages, which has resulted in some establishments limiting their services or changing the way they provide to their clients.

In one of the videos posted to social media, Snipe and Celly Sports Excellence manager Clay DeBray speaks to the impact local businesses can have on organizations in the community, highlighting how donations are distributed to programs at home.

“A lot of our youth sports organizations, along with others, benefit from you, the customers,” he said.

“As you come in to shop at our places of establishment, it allows us to give back a lot to our community needs.”

The media campaign can be followed through the Meadow Lake & District Chamber of Commerce accounts on Facebook and Instagram.
