Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce gives local businesses a voice

The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce (MTACC) held its first annual meeting as a chamber last night, where they discussed the past year and what’s to come.

Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, welcomed attendees to the chamber’s first official meeting.

MTACC was founded in 2019 but received its official chamber designation in January 2021.

MTACC executive director Cam Lee praised the chamber for taking their time to get an official designation.

“They’ve got a solid foundation and we hope to build on that in the future.”

At the meeting, they discussed past events such as Show & Shine and Touch-A-Truck from this past summer.

“It helped the organization get a foothold,” Lee added. “It is not necessarily the fundraising but the exposure. Getting back into events.”

As we approach the biggest shopping days of the year, Lee wants to remind the public to shop local.

“We know Christmas is a busy time for local businesses and if there is any way we can try and bring more people into Melfort to take advantage of those businesses we want to do so.”

A total of 18 new businesses have joined the chamber as a result of this year’s success. There are now 44 businesses in the MTACC.

Lee said that since he joined the chamber in April of 2021, he has contacted every business in Melfort.

“Originally, I went from business to business across town. I’ve tried to be out there as much as possible to let the businesses know that the chamber benefits them, the chamber and the Melfort area.”

The chamber is still looking for members for their promotion committee. Those interested, or those with questions, concerns, or want to know about upcoming events, may contact the Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.
